RHE

Relationships and Health Education (RHE)

The Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education and Health Education (England) Regulations 2019, made Relationships Education compulsory for all pupils receiving primary education They also make Health Education compulsory in all schools except independent schools.

At St Werburgh’s & St Columba’s Primary School, the content of RHE taught enables us to promote the spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental and physical development of all pupils. We have chosen to follow 'Life to the Full’ by TenTen to provide our RHE curriculum which has been approved by the Diocese of Shrewsbury. This program allows us to implement RHE within the morals of the Church's teaching. It emphasises the central importance of marriage and family whilst acknowledging that all pupils have a fundamental right to have their life respected whatever household they come from.

Through their programme, TenTen understand the foundational role that parents have as children’s first educators. Within the programme, they have built in resources which will not only keep you informed about what is being taught in school but will also give you the opportunity to engage your children in discussion, activity and prayer. The Church teaches us that this is very much a partnership with parents, ultimately, you confer on us the right to co-educate your children with you.

DfE guidance states that the focus of RHE in primary school should be on teaching the fundamental building blocks and characteristics of positive relationships, with a focus on friendships, family relationships, and relationships with other children and with adults. The Life to the Full Program fully supports the DfE guidance and is complemented by resources from our PSHE scheme ‘I know, I am, I can’ as part of our wider PSHE program.

TenTen also provide a parent portal which can be accessed to provide more information on how you can further support your child at home with learning that is taking place in school. To access these please use the following login details.
